Texas May Consider Legalizing Sports Betting in 2023

The Texas Governor’s office has reached out to lobbyists and regulators in New Jersey, according to unidentified sources, for advice on legalizing sports gambling.

It’s just conversation, but the ‘talk’ is happening.

What exactly does this mean no one really knows.

It could be research to find out how to go about the legalization of sports betting in Texas, or it could be gathering data on the damage that sports betting causes to the population.

It was reported that Bill Pascrell III, a lobbyist with the Princeton Public Affairs Group said…

“Something is going to happen in Texas,… It’s complicated because there’s no gaming culture and nothing definitive yet. But the governor is interested and the legislature is interested.”

Unknown sources have been reported to say that legal sports betting is being supported by some Texas Giants in Texas Sports.

Giants like Jerry Jones, Owner of the Dallas Cowboys, Mark Cuban, Owner of the Dallas Mavericks Basketball Team, and Tilman Fertitta, Owner of the Houston Rockets Basketball Team.

One plan would see professional sports teams and a few horse race tracks essentially become casinos and would give access to bookmaking partners.

Again, this is all still just ‘conversation’ as Texas has historically been a staunch conservative state and any changes to the gambling laws in Texas require a change to the state constitution.

But the pandemic has caused financial damage to many states, including Texas, and this may be a way to get out of the hole… but again… it’s just conversation… still.
